Hudson Bay Company Launches GestureTek’s Interactive Digital Signage and Advertising Technology on Outdoor Store Windows

February 2008 – The Hudson Bay Company’s (HBC’s) flagship location in Toronto, Canada is prominently located between Yonge and Queen, two of the city’s busiest streets.  The store is famous for its eye-catching window displays, which capture the attention of bypassers year-round. After a bustling Christmas shopping season, HBC needed something really exciting to draw people in during the slower sales period, so it called upon GestureTek and its partner, InTouch Media Group.

HBC embedded GestureTek’s ScreenFX™ (a dazzling interactive visual effects system) and ScreenXtreme™ (an immersive digital signage and advertising system) onto two 10’ x 8’ outdoor retail windows. These gesture-controlled solutions for retailers take retail advertising and digital signage to a whole new level.  It’s a far more engaging proposition than standard static retail signage.

People can control and interact with mesmerizing multi-media images and special effects, play games, manipulate advertisements or immerse their video image right into the heart of an ad or display, simply by waving their hand or pointing their finger in front of the retail window.  The same state-of-the-art gesture-control functionality can be delivered on a screen, panel, floor, wall, cash counter or tabletop.

HBC’s window allows people to interact with a series of digital advertisements promoting the store’s gift registery, its retail credit card, a charitable intiative and a high-end cosmetic product.

“These interactive gesture-controlled retail windows are a fantastic and ultra-cool branding and product marketing tool.  Thousands of people pass by these windows every day, and they can’t resist interacting with the display when they see themselves immersed in the ad and in control of the content,” said David Leetham, Director of Sales & Marketing for InTouch Media Group.
