Gesturetek technology powers the world's largest multi-touch surface computing table

June, 2007

GestureTek played a key role in bringing Serendipity’, the world’s largest multi-touch surface computing table, to market at the Eureka Tower in Melbourne, Australia.  The Eureka Tower is billed as Australia’s tallest building.

Serendipity features a 6 meter long, touch-sensitive table that reveals sixty different short stories that explore mythological, historical, cultural and contemporary elements of Melbourne.  The moving stream of stories materializes along sections of the table, which, once touched, converge to form an information window that contains text, images, film and animation.  The nature of the interaction is serendipitous, allowing viewers to make discoveries of knowledge by chance rather than following any sequential story order or narrative.

Serendipity utilizes the latest cutting edge software for interactive 3D graphics, along with GestureTek’s unique camera-based gesture recognition system to make the entire table top touch sensitive.  The 3D graphics are projected onto the table using two 1080p High Definition projectors to provide a large, seamless, continuous image.

The Serendipity content is fully customizable, making the installation ideal for clients who wish to incorporate their own content for specific functions or corporate events.
