The friendly town of Vulcan, Alberta has the distinction of being closely tied to the pop-culture phenomenon known as Star Trek.  Aside from sharing the same name as one of the program’s most popular Alien species the town also boasts one of the largest models of a replica Starship Enterprise, the Vulcan starship FX6-1995-A.

The town took the television show’s motto of ‘boldly going where no one has gone before’ to heart, and needed some cutting-edge technology for the opening of their latest exhibit.  For their new, one-of-a-kind “Vulcan Space Adventure” they used GestureTek’s patented HoloTrack Frame technology to put users into the formidable shoes of a starship cadet.  HoloTrack Frame gives users unencumbered mouse replacement for any presentation or display. Users simply point inside a control frame to access and manipulate interactive content on any size screen.

For the “Vulcan Space Adventure” a virtual reality game was created incorporating the HoloTrack Frame, where attendees assume the role of “Starfleet” cadets. Parodying the original Star Trek TV Series, the game lets cadets fight off alien invaders by standing in front of a holographic screen, and moving their hand within a control frame to point and shoot their weapons.

“Vulcan has always been a destination for fans of Star Trek from around the world,” said Dayna Dickens, Tourism Coordinator for the Town of Vulcan and the Vulcan Space Adventure.  “Gesturetek’s amazing HoloTrack Frame technology lets fans get closer to the action and immerses them in game play like never before”.
